Bedroom scene filming

After filming on Sunday we planned on filming Tuesday and Wednesday. However, I had to stay after school to make up a test so we switched it to Wednesday and Thursday. So after school on Wednesday we planned on going to our friend Ryan’s house to film the bedroom scene, but she didn’t come to school and had personal stuff going on so she said that day wasn’t good. However we needed to film because the deadline was getting closer so we went to my house instead. Everyone drove from school to my house where we started filming. A lot of the scenes were supposed to be me acting scared and breathing heavy, but I kept laughing because I felt very awkward. As a result, we didn’t get much done because James had to be back at school by 5 to volunteer for something which didn’t give us much time to film. I had to get up and pretend to be startled but with both of them watching me trying to act I felt embarrassed and awkward which made me laugh. I felt bad because we had to get this done but I couldn’t stop laughing. We did get a few scenes from the beginning of the bedroom scene done though which helped but we might have to re do all of it in Ryan’s room because they don’t want to come to my house again as it is far from school. As a solution though I thought of an idea where my mom can film me doing the scenes which will make it less awkward for me and allow me to get more scenes filmed. James isn’t in a lot of the part so I said that he could just come over for an hour when I get everything done and film his part. We were also supposed to film today after school but Lucy didn’t come to school and didn’t want to drive anywhere so we switched plans to filming tomorrow after school. Tomorrow we will film at wolf lake again and try to get most of it done. Then hopefully film this weekend if we don’t finish.

Actually filmed blog

Yesterday my group filmed our first part of the movie. However, there was a huge argument between my group and filming times and days. Reese had given us a limited schedule to film and we could only film at night. While this was our first idea, after thinking about it there was so much more technique that would have to go into filming at night such as following the characters with the flashlights and not being able to film far away shots as you wouldn’t be able to see them. So my group and I kind of sided together against Reese and said that we have to do it during the day. She got very mad and said we have to film it all and she will help edit. We accepted this without a problem because we can get together more often to film. So Lucy, James, and I went wolf lake park instead of silver lakes and filmed a few scenes. We started at around 5:45 so we didn’t have much time to film before dark. We decided I would be the victim and James would be the attacker with Lucy filming us. Since I laugh in awkward situations it was hard in the beginning to get things done because we kept laughing. However after 10 minutes I finally got a grip and was able to be serious. We also had a scene where I had to trip and fall, this was hard for me though because I didn’t want to hurt myself or get dirty. I had just showered and didn’t want to have to re-shower. Although the first try I actually slipped while trying to pretend fall and got grass stains all over my shorts. After about 5 tries I found a different way to fall while making it look real. Although we didn’t get much filming done we figured out most of the scenes we need to do at what time and day. So it became very helpful that we met up yesterday. We also changed the filming days so that we film Tuesday, Wednesday, and this coming weekend.

Didn't actually film blog

Today in our AICE media class we planned the specific dates because Reese’s schedule had changed. This weekend we weren’t able to film because James was away for a soccer game. We were planning on filming this weekend and next weekend and cramming because we now had limited time. We researched our filming locations as we are filming in a park. We made sure to secure the location and to make sure we are allowed to film in it and it is open at the times we need. We need to film during the night time so we researched to make sure it would be open. We also have been having some problems with when to film since we have four group members and it is hard to clear everyone’s schedule. Reese plus softball and had games almost every day next week, it was very hard to figure out days but we decided to film on February 22, 23, and 28. Then we would edit on March 1 to have it mostly finished by March 3 to peer review. Transportation has also been a problem in the process of planning to film. Three of the group members live in total opposite areas of Broward county. This made it very hard to pick a place to film. Since some of us drive we were able to easier pick, we decided Hollywood would be best because 2 of out the 4 group members lived there. However, Reese lives in Pompano and can’t drive herself so we will have to figure out a plan to drive her and we will take turns since her parents don't want to drive so far. This is a big disadvantage on us though because we will have to drive out of the way to go pick her up. After today's class, we fully planned out our schedule so we will be going to film our first portion of the movie this weekend.

Storyboard blog

In the past few days, we have worked on our storyboard. Our storyboard consists of 10 different papers, equaling 2 minutes of footage. We did our storyboard so we could turn our ideas and words into pictures to understand them better. This is helpful to our filming process because it is very beneficial to have a clear outline of what we will be doing so we can use our filming time more efficiently. However, we also came across some difficulties while story boarding. We realized that it is difficult to depict our ideas since all of us are not skilled drawers so it took longer than we hoped. We helped overcome this problem by taking turns while drawing, so one person did not get too tired. Additionally, to not over complicate things, instead of coloring our drawings, we shaded them with a pencil since color is not an important aspect of our film. We asked our teachers about this to assure that this was the correct way to storyboard, and they allowed us to do this since it would save time. Overall, the story board came out similar to what we expected it to look like, but unfortunately took a lot of time to complete.

Planning Research: Title Design

After planning which titles go where in our shooting script, we have now decided on the design of our titles. We decided on the font, point size, entering, and exiting of these titles. We used our previous title research, and examples from the film, “Split” to help us determine these details. We felt that it was best to try and go into depth to limit the amount of work and processing later in the project. Despite all of this thorough planning, we do expect some changes and bumps along the course of this project, and we have prepared for that by not making anything set and stone yet, leaving us with back-up options.

Planning research: schedule, location, and safety

For this week of planning, we discussed certain elements that will be important when we film. Specifically, we went over health and safety, location, participants, our schedule, and title design.  When discussing Health and Safety, we thought it was important to discuss how we will navigate through a wooded area since it will most likely be at sundown when we film. Additionally, as I just mentioned we will be filming in an area that resembles the woods, most likely a large park nearby one of our houses. Then, for our participants, it will only be my group mates and I acting and producing the film. Since there are 4 people in our group, we decided it was best to have a loose schedule since there might be days where something unexpected comes up, but we are also hoping to only film twice at most (2 separate days).

Planning sound script

Since we have prepared our final task we began to plan and make our scripts for the introduction of our two minute movie beginning. In our script we decided that we will be separating our opening sequence by scene and indicate exactly what the audience will be hearing in each scene. In the topic of sound we covered every piece of it, from the Voice overs to non diegetic sounds that will be played through the course of the film. When writing our sound scripts for our film, we stressed the importance of it. Sound scripts allow us to plan and hear what the audience will be hearing, also, it lays down a foundation as to how the movie will move along with the sound alongside it. In the case that the sound script is ignored or isn’t prioritized, the quality of the film would greatly decrease as the movie will be lost. Since sound is the major accompaniment to film, these reasons are why it is so important to have a huge priority over them.

Planning shooting script

The shooting script blog is different from the sound script as the shooting script includes some if not all camera movements and angles. The reason that we included a shooting script is because it is a written form of the storyboard with the same amount of detail. Once again we broke down the film into multiple scenes and described briefly the action that the character is doing as well as the camera movement around that character. Without the shots script, film makers would have a much more difficult time shooting film because they have no plan. Also, as students we do not have film sets so we must film wherever we possibly could and not be able to shoot retakes as we are crunched for time.
